cypress grove
The Cypress Grove house nestles into the southern edge of the Soldier Pass neighborhood’s Arizona Cypress Forest, thus gaining privacy from the street, straddling a wash, and spanning into a small clearing where one is surprised by the Mitten Rock monuments to the north. The open beamed roofs rise like wings to this northern view, which is captured in open glass corners and anchored in the main living room by a large moss rock fireplace wall. An open-riser stair of glu-laminated wood treads and a central steel stringer leads to the loft-like study and library above, with its own fractal wing of a roof to the north and a access to a roof-deck over the garage below on the sunny southern side. Richly stained, patinaed concrete floors, clean hardwood cabinetry, and clear anodized aluminum sculptural light fixtures finish the interior with a dynamic, modern sensibility.
